Think I may be in love. As Marion remarked - it makes the garden look nice too.

1000/827: 26 May 2012: Froggy
Found this one in the pond - along with 3-4 friends. Very obliging too - let me get within a couple of inches for this shot.
1000/826: 25 May 2012: Bird table
Not much to say about this really. Was dashing off to the theatre and wanted an insurance shot in case it was too late when I got back. Good call.
1000/825: 24 May 2012: Banana Moon
Photographing the moon is non-trivial -n especially if you're trying to get some surface detail. Gave up on that and settled for this version which shows a full disc, courtesy, I think, of light reflected back from the earth
1000/824: 23 May 2012: After the sparrows
Every year the sparrows take over last year's house martin nests. As they find the entrance inconvenient they make a new one which weakens the structure, causing it to fall onto the drive. Their feeble attempt at a nest then ends up in a heap like this.
Shortly after the house martins decide now is the time to start nesting and build the whole thing again - which is what is happening as I type.
1000/822: 21 May 2012: Ironing board
Any port in a storm - this was taken last minute and is simply the creased fabric on a hotel ironing board.
1000/821: 20 May 2012: Unfinished
The observant - at least those old enough to remember cassettes - will have spotted that this case is empty. Spent half the evening looking for it before I concluded (correctly as it turned out) that the tape must be in a player Ashley took with him when he moved out.
1000/820: 19 May 2012: The von Trapp's? Well not quite
Acting as semi-official photographer at an event to raise funds for a new clavinova in Marion's church tonight. Quite challenging as I wasn't able top move around and the lighting was not great, but reasonably happy with the outcome.
This is the music group performing some an ensemble piece - Naomi and Marion in the middle.

1000/819: 18 May 2012: My very own Big Cat
I know it's crazy, but then I blip the accelerator and the song drives all those bad thoughts away!!!
Now all I need is an oil-well.
1000/818: 17 May 2012: Neolithic novels
One of Marion's favourite authors. Not quite sure myself but she does paint a remarkable picture of life during the last ice age. Definitely a well researched mix of anthropology, archaeology and story-telling.
1000/817: 16 May 2012: The struggle continues..
This is beginning to come back - I feel like I've been put through a wringer this evening - so my fitness has a way to go. BUT, the katas are coming back, and the iffy knee seem to be taking the punishment better, so there may be hope after all.

1000/816: 15 May 2012: Curtains of light
This lighting is just so much more interesting than daylight. For some reason this reminds me of music - not any particular music - just music.
1000/815: 14 May 2012: Mossy wall by streetlight
1000/814: 13 May 2012: Golden Tarmac
Intended this shot to be black and white, but I was taken by the gold reflections on the wet tarmac. No more to it than that really - it's just a celebration of the unexpected beauty of artificial lighting.
1000/813: 12 May 2012: A penguin wears his dinner suit..
was the name of a song we used to sing to amuse the kids. I can still remember the words so gives thanks for the silence that follows........
Bought these little guys on a trip to South Africa about 10 years ago, but only fairly recently got round to mounting them on a suitable rock. Each one is probably no more than a centimetre tall.
1000/812: 11 May 2012: Bluelight
This is one of the reasons I like photography by artificial light - the weird colour shifts. This was illuminated by my computer screen.

1000/811: 10 May 2012: Male Sparrowhawk
Sometimes you have to go with your instinct. Spotted this from the bedroom window while on the way to the shower. because I didn't have my glasses on I nearly dismissed it as yet another pigeon - but something made me go back for a proper look with glasses. And then the little guy waited around while I dashed into the next bedroom to grab a camera and telephoto. It's these kind of moments that make life special.
1000/810: 09 May 2012: Late Night Garden
Not much to say about this really - the raindrops, condensation and street lighting have conspired to add a bit of mystery to my front garden. Who am I to turn down such an opportunity?
1000/809: 08 May 2012: Baby Shower Cake
This one is a special request for Marion who, reasonably enough, is rather pleased with this baby shower cake she made for a colleague. She is far too modest - her special cakes generally turn out as exactly that - special.
1000/808: 07 May 2012: The Waxed Bat
Tastes great - not sure about the name. What is it with the Wine Club and weird brand names?
1000/807: 06 May 2012: After the show is over..
...we all go to the pub to celebrate. 3 nights of fun and general mayhem. Sold out every night as well I believe. certainly worth a pint or two - or in my case a pint and J2O - in celebration.
1000/806: 05 May 2012: Clothes Line Abstract
Casting around for a different shot tonight, and wondered what I could make of a rotary clothes line. Hadn't quite bargained for the way the light catches the clothes line and turns this into a fairly intriguing abstract. So lets drink to lucky accidents!
1000/805: 04 May 2012: Waiting for the panto to begin
So it's Friday night at last and the Crosby Amateur Musical Society (CAMS) is ready and waiting for the first performance of Cinderella. The stage is set, the hall is ready - and I'm stood behind the curtains thinking "What on earth am I doing here?"
I needn't have worried. The three nights were a great success - albeit with the usual collection of theatrical mishaps _ and as far as we can tell from the feedback - everyone who attended had a good time. Yay! Roll on the next event. And three cheers for Laura who organised it all so admirably.

1000/804: 03 May 2012: Car keys
I have no excuse for the sheer dullness of this photo except that I was short of time and inspiration. A bit like the Golf that they operate really.
1000/803: 02 May 2012: Compare the Meerkat
Well guess what?. We bought some insurance through Comparethemarket and got this 'amusing' meerkat toy through the post all the way from Meerkovo. Not sure what it tells you about the insurance, but it is moderately amusing.
1000/802: 01 May 2012: A really good book
Every so often you find a book that makes you really stop and think, and this is one such book. If you have the remotest interest in art I can really recommend it. Will be writing a more detailed review over on my degree blog Very soon.

1000/801: 30 April 2012: Trees at Night
Strongly side lit trees just outside the hotel lobby. Reminds me of an ent moot - or at least, a posse of ents on the way to such a moot.
1000/800: 29 April 2012: Cat Food. Nom, Nom!
Looks a a lot more delicious than it smells - and lets be honest, it doesn't look that delicious.
1000/799: 28 April 2012: After Sundown
Had to play around with this to bring out the colours but I like the mix of blue and peach. Reminds me a little of some colour field art.

1000/798: 27 April 2012: The Letter Black
In case you're wondering The Letter Black are like a rather tougher Paramore - up tempo, tuneful metal, with a female lead singer. In fact - here's a link: http://youtu.be/kO4Q2ErZX8U
1000/797: 26 April 2012: Cherry Blossom by Streetlight
Cherry blossoms - they're gorgeous however you look at them. Thought this shot had a bit of a Japanese feel with the street lamp looking a bit like the moon behind the blossoms. Don't be fooled though - it's just outside Warrington.

1000/796: 25 April 2012: Table Lamp
Not really sure why I like this shot. Table lamps are a bit challenging because of the dynamic range, but they can make quite graphic images if you get them right. Perhaps that's the answer.
1000/795: Spring 3: Bluebells and Daffodils
Have my creative mojo back today - not sure for how long but I'll worry about that later. Trying to capture springtime here without the usual flower buds, lambs and blossom cliches. It was actually a large patch of bluebells with a couple of daffs thrown in for good measure in the hotel grounds. The sun was quite low and there was a bit of back-lighting just to add a bit of luminosity to the greenery as well.
1000/794: 23 April 2012: Toothbrush
It's a toothbrush. The fact that I took it at a funny angle doesn't make it art. Really I'm just embarrassed at how dull this is.
