1000/793: 22 April 2012: International Garden Photographer of the Year, Rheged, Penrith

Spent an hour at this exhibition this afternoon. Will be writing up my reactions over on my degree blog at some stage soon, but for now I can say that it's well worth a visit if you're in the area. It's showing until Sunday 1 July. Not sure it's really garden photography though.

1000/792: 21 April 2012: Bedtime for fishes

Another in a growing list of shots with no artistic merit - but it does serve to remind me just how cold the evenings have become again. I need a higher powered - or preferably second - aquarium heater. Throwing a sleeping bag over the tank at night is currently the only way I can stabilise the temperature.

1000/791: 20 April 2012: At the piano

Blew the first attempt at a candid shot of Marion practising for a playathon to raise money for a new church Clavinova, but this one of her looking at the camera is still quite pleasing.

1000/790: 19 April 2012: Pansy by street light

Back to what is becoming a favoured lighting condition - high contrast artificial light at night. Couldn't tell what colour this pansy actually was until I saw it in the morning - had assumed it was white but it was actually pale yellow. Whatever, I liked the back-lighting and the play of light on the bushes behind.

1000/789: 18 April 2012: Karate Trophies

Still struggling on the old creativity front. These adorn my bookcase from the last time I was actually fit. Now have a genuine challenge to get into shape and back up to speed for a 2nd Dan grading later in the year.

1000/788: 17 April 2012: Cupcakes

Marion's birthday today and No.1 daughter has provided this cupcake construction in lieu of a traditional birthday cake. All done in pretty pink icing and sparkly sprinkly things. yay!!

1000/787: 16 April 2012: Pink Piggy

Struggling to stay interested in this project. Think I've proved I can manage a photo of something everyday, but am beginning to feel that I'm no longer learning or achieving anything. Tonight is a classic example - thinking about bed before I remembered I needed a shot, so took the first household object that crossed my field of view.
I know it's quite cute and all that stuff, but really? What is this achieving?

1000/786: 15 April 2012: Room with a view

Taken at the last minute as is so often the case, but I was peering through the front bedroom window when I realised this might make an interesting shot.

1000/785:14 April 2012: David and Esther

Getting behind on my posting so this is a rather belated congratulations to David and Esther. One of the nicest weddings I've been to.

1000/784: 13 April 2012: Pedal Bin Reflection

Another reflective self portrait. Don't think this is quite as good as some of my previous attempts - obviously got out of the habit.

1000/783: 12 April 2012: Tourist Information

Inspiration still lacking - grabbed this one before dashing off for something to eat. One of those days when being a regular at the hotel as I'd forgotten to book, but they managed to squeeze me in anyway.

1000/782: 11 April 2012: New phone

Marion finally succumbed to the offer of a new smart phone from 02. It replaces a truly ancient Sony Ericsson - think Flintstones bone-phone - but may take some getting used to.

1000/781: 10 April 2012: Tin Cans

These seemed oddly attractive, perhaps evenly interesting by the time I'd fiddled with the white balance and saturation, and cropped in a bit. There's always a photo if you try hard enough.

1000/780: 09 April 2012: Thracian Warrior

Think we bought this i a market in Bulgaria several years ago - it's allegedly a Thracian warrior.

1000/779: 08 April 2012: Silver foil

Well - currently lost for inspiration - 1000 days has become a bit of a chore at the moment.

1000/778: 07 April 2012: Whinlatter

Trying to portray a sense of what it's like to be surrounded by pine trees in Whinlatter Forest

1000/777: 06 April 2012: Fridge Magnets

Frdige Magnets. When were they invented ? Why were they invented? How would we survive without homespun wisdom and cartoon characters attached to our fridge?

1000/776: 05 April 2012: The Solway

Taken on an early evening stroll - I was attracted by the sun catching on the sea and the caravan rooves.

1000/775: 04 April 2012: Angel Fish

Nearly deleted this, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. It seems to capture that mix of colour, light and movement that makes an aquarium such a great thing to have in a room.

1000/774: 03 April 2012: From Little Acorns

For anyone into conceptual art this was inspired by An Oak Tree

1000/773: 02 April 2012: The Gables, Southfield

Different hotel tonight - there's a limit to how many times you can choose from a bar menu before you need a change. Not the most exciting shot in the world but after 5 hours in the car and 5 hours in the office it was all I could muster I'm afraid.

1000/772: 01 April 2012: Outside Room

A bit of an oddity this one - I was casting around for something to shoot when the reflection of the spare bedroom/office in the window caught my eye.

1000/771: 31 March 2012: Wood Anemone

Pretty sure this is a wood anemone - no doubt someone will let me know if I'm wrong. Found it on a patch of river bank below Lorton Road in Cockermouth.

1000/770: 30 March 2012: More art books

Went to see the Turner watercolours in Kendal today - quite an interesting exhibition, hadn't realised quite how modern they would look. Popped into Waterstones after lunch - Kendal has a rather more interesting collection of art/photography books than most - and came away with these two. The Hockney in particular is a fascinating read - more in my degree blog when I've finished reading it.

1000/769: 29 March 2012: Easter basket

Behind - make that very behind - with my posting again. These are a 'sort of healthy' version made with shredded wheaties - but if anything they are tastier than the normal cornflake version.

1000/768: 28 March 2012: Geranium seedlings

Another night short on inspiration so I grabbed a shot of these handy geranium seedlings.

1000/767: 27 March 2012: Monkton Lodge Services

Overnight at Monkton Lodge services near Prestwick Airport. My surname raised a few eyebrows/comments in the hotel reception and bar - obviously there aren't a lot of is about. Went home over the Galloway tourist route next day and saw a red kite - which is always special.

1000/766: 26 March 2012: Moon, Venus and Jupiter

Jupiter and Venus have been doing a bit of a stately dance with the moon for the last few days so I thought it was worth a shot even though this isn't really the lens for the job. Quite like the colours of the sunset though. In reality the main event was the grass fire on Criffel - click here - which I have had published by ITN and the Daily Mail.

1000/765: 25 March 2012: Curled up kitty

Not much to say about this one. Left it to the last minute - dashed downstairs to take a photo - and Marmalade was available and obliging.

Sunday, 1 April 2012

1000/764: 24 March 2012: An evening with Ted Forbes

Spent the evening working on my degree assignment - and watching Ted Forbes discuss the work of Brassai.

1000/763: 23 March 2012: Another computer project

Behind with my posting again. This one taken last week as I get things ready to build Ashley's birthday present - only a month late.
